Vaporizers

Overview:

Medical dry herb vaporizers incorporate advanced technology to deliver an optimal user experience. During the design process, it is essential to prioritize usability and inclusivity, ensuring the product meets the needs of a diverse range of users, particularly those relying on it for medical purposes. This involves user-centered design principles, accessibility considerations, and rigorous testing to create an intuitive and effective interface.

My Role:

In my UX design process for medical dry herb vaporizers, I began with comprehensive user research, including interviews and surveys to identify pain points and needs. I created user personas and conducted competitive analysis to inform my approach. Based on these insights, I defined key user scenarios and developed low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout and functionality. This was followed by rapid prototyping, high-fidelity mockups, 3D modeling, and interactive prototypes to simulate the user experience. Throughout the process, I conducted usability testing and gathered feedback to refine the design, ensuring it met both functional and accessibility requirements for medical users.

The Brand

Identifying brand attributes

To start the process we understanded the company’s overall business goals, culture, the values and the customers and their pains. With this insight, we researched their target market and identified how to design new products and stand out from the competition. Initially, the brand aimed to launch an innovative product with a complete aesthetic relaunch, prompting us to begin the exploration phase.

Users and business problem

To build products based on user needs, it's critical to know which features they adopt, which they ignore, and how they use the product. I did surveys to understand key pain points that come from the users directly. We also did secondary research and analyzed competitors latest releases, and we performed observation to understand how they used and interact with the product.

Define

Synthesize and

prioritizing

From costumer findings during the research, it was defined to prioritize what had the highest impact. In this case, size, ergonomic, heat control and user interface were some of the task we wanted to develop.

Ideation

Brainstorm Ideas in paper, sketching, and develop 3D modeling and renderings to better visualize options.

3D Printing

With a 3d printing of the final options we where able to analyze some usability issues, and refine the design options

Usability Testing

With the 3d prints we were able to conduct some testing to ensure that the design solution was responding to users needs and will have the impact that we initially wanted to have. Such as moth piece orientation, display size and grip.

Iterations

Based on the feedback, I developed some alternative designs and solutions that respond direct to those costumer's needs. Filter the must relevant options and share them with the broad team.

Share and define

Share the final designs with the broader team and cross-functional partners to better understand how the design will impact other aspects of the business. We also  define materials and manufacturing process for production details

Challenges

  • The brand initially sought a complete aesthetic transformation alongside product innovation.

  • Midway through the project, upper management decided to maintain the existing brand aesthetics, requiring a design pivot.

  • Balancing business objectives with user insights gathered from co-creation sessions.

The Design

Despite the design shift, we ensured the product remained user-centric. We conducted co-creation sessions and incorporated feedback into:
✔ The physical shape of the product
✔ The interface and screen design

Screen & UI
Design

Screen & UI Design – Enhancing the digital experience by improving interface layout, accessibility, and navigation flow to ensure seamless user interaction.

Our approach focused on:
Optimizing information hierarchy to improve readability and usability.
Aligning UI elements with the product’s physical form for a cohesive experience.
Ensuring responsiveness and adaptability for diverse user needs.

Final Outcome

A product that successfully aligned with the brand’s visual identity while incorporating modern user needs.

A well-integrated physical-digital experience, where the UI and screen design enhanced usability.

A design that balanced business constraints with user insights, enhancing both form and function.

Key Takeaways
